Hopea cordifolia

Hopea cordifolia

Hopea cordifolia is a species of plant that is endemic to Sri Lanka. The wood of this particular tree has a colour of dark yellowish brown and it has several importat attributes such as high durability and hardness. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed Hopea cordifolia as endangered. The exact scientific classification of the tree is still not officially confirmed but it belongs to the family of Dipterocarpaceae. According to IUCN, the tree was extremely challenging to find in several forest surveys in Sri Lanka. However, this tree has been located along rivers at Udawalawe National Park.
